Corner View 'Wisdom from an Elder'

The CV idea this week came from Theresa - 'Wisdom from an Elder'.

This reminded me of a condolences card my mother received from a very elderly gentleman neighbour when my father died (when I was just aged 13 years).  The card included a quote taken from the poem "Hallowed Ground" by Thomas Campbell:

"To live in hearts we leave behind,
is not to die".

These wise words have stayed with me, especially now so many years have passed since my father died.  He is always in my heart and my mind and therefore always with me.

  3. Oh wow - such a powerful quote and how comforting and true they are.
I so so love your photo of the bougainvilleas - making me homesick right now.

p.s. - that's so cool that your son speaks fluent dutch. Let me just say I'm thankful for English.

  13. Wow--just what I needed to hear. My father died on Sunday, and it's still so hard to grasp it. But I know he will always be in my heart. And I know it will get easier with time, but just not today or tomorrow...

  16. That's so powerful and beautiful. You must be very strong to have dealt with that at such a young age.

  17. What true words. 13 is a very young age to have lost your father, am sorry.
BTW I felt like I was looking out our window here- we have two bougainvillaeas very similar to the one in your picture in our courtyard. They are such bold strong plants!

  20. Hi Ladies. Thank you for all your lovely comments.

The bourgainvilleas are sadly not outside me window - photo is from a trip to Greece a couple of years back. The colour made me smile and I thought it nice for this post.

Kari - I'm so thankful the dutch speak such great English too - otherwise I'd be completely lost!

Jane - the wine is open whenever you're ready!

Elisabelle - It was hard without my father at a young age. But looking back, it was the hardest for my mother, she was just 37. It really hit home when I became 37 and really understood how young she was to become a widow and be alone.

Lisa - So sorry for your loss this week. Your father will always be in your heart and mnd, and you'll cherish all the great memories of him every day. Sending hugs.
