Corner View 'Animals'

I'm sure we're going to see lots of incredibly cute and cuddly animals for Corner View this week.  The kind that we can't resist going 'Aahhhh' over.   But my animal is not quite the cutest things you'll see, but he sure is fluffy and impressive.

We recently made a trip to a nearby safari park, Beekse Bergen.  The first time we visited this park was about 6 years ago.  The lasting memory from that trip was a giraffe licking our car windscreen!  It had been raining and the windscreen was covered in water droplets that the giraffe quite enjoyed.  What a huge tongue he had!  Wish I had a photo of that to show you.

This time, we spent so much time watching the Hamadryas baboons.  Small babies clinging onto their mothers backs.  Males sitting up high to keep an eye on everyone.  Juveniles springing from one rock or tree to another.  They are so entertaining.

This particular guy was obviously the leader of the pack.  And doesn't it show.  Looks like he spent all morning grooming himself for this photo!  Who needs a hair crimper when you've got hair like this?!

After a while I think he was a little bored with us taking photos of him!  Check out the teeth!

  2. Oh my! That hair looks like it's been braided in a thousand little braids. Or maybe crimped with a crimping iron.

  5. Oh those photos are so great!!! What a cool animal. He really looks like a person sitting there, and then again, yawning. Wild! OK, mine seems very boring now!

  7. A safari park in the netherlands?! I guess that baboon is just plain cold, no hair crimper effect:)

  9. You reminded me - I've been wanting to go there for a while. Perhaps the weather's too nice now, though - would it be really busy already?

  12. Quite a majestic creature, very regal. Love the wide yawn you captured, and yes what teeth! Stella would go mad for a sight of such a monkey. No zoo in Malta, perhaps next time we are in the states or the UK!

  13. I like his hair!!! ;-) He looks so cool on the first picture. So, you haven't moved to NL recently, like 2 years ago? What language do your kids speak among eachother after so many years if I may ask?

  20. CT - We moved here in 2001, then left in 2004 for the US and returned again in 2006. Who knows when we'll be off again ?! My son is bi-lingual Dutch and English. English at home with us, Dutch outside the home and at school. With his English friends who are also bi-lingual they choose to speak mostly Dutch together. Ruby is starting with English just like Luca and when she starts the peuterspeelzaal she'll start picking up Dutch. Both will undoubtedly speak Dutch better than me!!

Mwa - As the weather is warmer now I can bet that the zoo / safari will be busy, but an early start at a weekend before the summer holidays would be good. We've only gone on Sundays at it hasn't been bad at all. Hope you have fun.
