cake practice

I'm not much of a baker.  Most cakes I have made have turned out just about ok.  However, my good friend A is an excellent cake maker and recommended this easy birthday cake from Nigella's 'Domestic Goddess' book (which co-incidentally I have, but had never noticed the recipe before).

As Ruby turns 3 next weekend, my plan is to make a simple birthday cake for her, covered in all things pink - including the buttercream.  So a practice run was essential, without so much pink!

Well... it turned out just perfectly in my practice run.   Filled with buttercream and a light spread of blackcurrant jam, this cake tastes delicious.  I highly recommend it for those not so experienced in the cake making department.
