If we had the weekend free, we'd be at ...

I'm back with my 2nd suggestion for a little getaway with someone close to you.  Well, in my case that would always be my Huzz.   We're going to do our very best to get a weekend away, just the two of us, this year.

Its along time since I had a 'real' vacation in the UK.  We pop back over to visit our families and friends in Brighton, London, Leigh-on Sea, Herfordshire and Edinburgh, but not a real getaway on our own.  And its many years since I visited Cornwall... far too many in fact, so that's where we're off to.

"If we had the weekend free, we'd be at... " the Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall.  This new 37 bedroom luxury hotel, built to the highest of eco standards, shows how great design and style can work perfectly together with sustainability.  The vision of 3 sisters, all mothers, has created a stunning clifftop hotel where eco-friendliness takes nothing away from its luxury.  Not only has the hotel been constructed with an eco vision, the day to day running of the hotel benefits the environment, with its rain water harvesting, natural air conditioning and biomass boiler.  Not forgetting the reduce, reuse, recycle policy many of us try to live by these days.

Bedrooms are in the categories - Just Right, Generous, Unique, Spacious and Indulgent - something to suit everyone.  Each contemporary room has its own outdoor space - be it a small patio, terrace of balcony.  Each making the most of the most dramatic clifftop views overlooking Mawgan Porth beach.

The restaurant is headed up by Michelin award-winner chef Ben Tunnicliffe.  Serving a changing daily menu of "sophisticated, robust food" all seasonal and bursting with flavour and wherever possible locally sourced.  Delicious!

And to really reap the rewards of a weekend to ourselves, the Ayurvedic spa offers the most wonderfully relaxing environment and treatments.  Products by Tri-Dosha and Voya are used, together with the Scarlet Range using all local Cornish products.  There's an indoor pool (chemical free) and outdoor pool (filtered by living reeds), log-fired seaweed baths and hot-tubs on the cliff edge looking out to sea, and a eucalyptus infused steam room.  Blissful don't you think?

I think we'd have a fantastic weekend here.  A walk through the landscaped gardens would lead us down to the beach and strolls along the cliff top paths between Padstow and Newquay (National Trust protected) would brush away the cobwebs and leave us feeling revived and refreshed.  If we were feeling really energetic, the Scarlet team could help arrange some surfing, kayaking or  horse riding.  After all that activity, next stop would no doubt be the "to die for" Cornish afternoon tea back at the hotel.

Having a weekend away with my Huzz would be all about relaxing, luxury, pampering, eating and doing as little as possible, together.  I think the Scarlet could easily provide all of this, don't you?

  1. Hey Victoria, if I had a weekend I would visit a dear friend of mine who lives in a tiny city near Sauton (UK). She keeps telling me of the beautiful beaches - not warm, but just beautiful. Hm...maybe she should just visit me at this Scarlet Hotel -lol-.
I wish you a lovely weekend, XXX, Carmie.
